Today is my last day in quarantine, I’m heading back to Melbourne tomorrow.

I get up early and do some yoga and then make coffee. I’ve started a horticulture class with the Open Polytechnic and working on that sees me through till I do a sprint session for an hour on the bike.  After lunch I sit in front of an open window and read my book. My routine is done by about 3 so I watch TV or do a crossword. That takes me through to dinner arriving and after that I go to bed.

I have a nice room and a balcony where I can exercise, my team organised the bike. I have a view over Darling Harbour, I really can’t complain.

We have an exemption to train together when I get back. They haven’t officially announced when we’ll start the season but seem confident that there will be a hub starting in November in the far north of Queensland. There are 8 teams in the WNBL and there will be 16 games.

I went home in March, I was supposed to be there for two weeks and was there for six months. It was good to live at home rather than just visit. I was lucky to be able to spend time with my Grandad before he died. I went skiing too and went down to Stewart Island and did a few tramps.

The Sydney 2022 Basketball World Cup is something to aim for. We were only 6 points shy of qualifying for this year’s Olympics.

It was my 25th birthday yesterday. I spent the whole day on the phone, I felt very loved.  The hotel sent up a bottle of champagne and my team sent me chocolates and strawberries.

If you can think of suitable interview subjects please let me know via pete@petecarter.nz – I currently need interviews in the more unusual places around the world.
